Ottmar Liebert’s global success can be attributed to a myriad of things—his creative vision, his determination, and a strong sense of melody.
German guitarist and composer Ottmar Liebert rose to success in the 1990s playing Spanish-influenced easy listening music he called “nouveau flamenco.” Born in Cologne, Liebert picked up the guitar at 11 years old. After pursuing his dreams of playing rock music in Boston, he settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he turned to the acoustic guitar and let his surroundings define the music he made. His openness to the local landscape helped him develop his musical style: a mix of Spanish, Mexican, and world elements, and strong melodies tinged with a shade of melancholy but balanced by upbeat rhythms.
Liebert’s success is a testament to his creative vision, his determination, and his strong sense of melody. He has played more than 2,000 concerts worldwide and has been nominated for five Grammy Awards.
