Demonstration: Pipe Organ 11:30 a.m. Orientation Gallery Enjoy a brief demonstration of MIM’s 14-foot-tall pipe organ, made in 1859 and the only surviving instrument of New York City builder Thomas Robjohn.
Performance: Sounds of Central Africa (Saturday Only) 12:30 p.m. North El Río Phoenix-based Ugandan multi-instrumentalist Giovanni Kiyingi shares how instruments such as the African harp, fiddle, and thumb piano transcend Central African borders and are defined by the communities who adopt them.
Performance: Aaron White (Sunday Only) 12:30 p.m. North El Río Native American flute performer and maker Aaron White (Diné-Ute) has delighted and educated audiences for decades. Join him for a flute demonstration and to hear about his musical influences and experiences.
Musical Storytelling 1:30 p.m. Event Room 2 Internationally renowned Yellow Bird Productions presents an engaging 30-minute performance of stories and music representing the Apache, Arikara, and Hidatsa nations.
Demonstration: Octobasse 2:30 p.m. Orientation Gallery Join Rich Walter, curator for United States / Canada and Europe, for a rare demonstration of the octobasse.
Performance: Rosie’s House (Saturday Only) 3:15 p.m. North El Río In addition to having a thriving professional music scene, Arizona is home to an abundance of talented young musicians. Hear students from Rosie’s House in a mariachi performance that highlights the next generation of Arizona musicians.
Performance: Folk Music of Burkina Faso (Sunday Only) 3:15 p.m. North El Río Discover traditional West African folk music as husband-and-wife duo Arouna and Zaza Diarra showcase the musical possibilities of the n’goni, a 14-string, harp-like instrument.
