Leigh’s ‘You’ve Never Been to North Dakota’ soothes like Cole Porter, timelessly lyrical both literally and vocally.
—Austin Chronicle
Brennen Leigh is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and mandolinist whose to-the-point storytelling style has elevated her to cult icon status in North America, South America, and Europe. Her songs have been recorded by Lee Ann Womack, Rodney Crowell, Sunny Sweeney, Charley Crockett, and many others, and she is as renowned for her musicianship as she is for her writing.
Leigh’s seventh album, Obsessed with the West, showcases 12 songs written by Leigh. The songwriter demonstrates her wit and vitality on “Comin’ in Hot,” a 1940s jump blues number, and the lonesome cowboy ballad “Riding Off onto Sunset Boulevard.”
As The Lowest Pair, Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee have recorded and released five albums and relentlessly toured North America and the UK. Clawhammer banjo and acoustic guitar still hold the duo’s heart, but the fleshed-out sound of its latest release, The Perfect Plan, leans gently into Winter’s punk past and explores the sonic playground of her mind, setting the band down a new musical path.
