Long hailed as one of the most distinctive and original improvising guitarists of our time.
—New York Times
Bill Frisell’s career as a guitarist and composer has spanned more than 40 years and many celebrated recordings, including 2011’s Grammy-winning Americana. In a rare and special opportunity, Frisell will perform solo at MIM.
Frisell’s oeuvre spans a wide range of musical expression. He has written original scores for Buster Keaton films and arrangements for extended ensembles with horns and strings. He has collaborated with bassist Viktor Krauss and drummer Jim Keltner. He has released solo albums, trio albums, albums with Nashville musicians, and a collection of traditional American folk songs and originals inspired by them, among many others.
Frisell is continually recognized as one of America’s most vital and productive performing artists. He was one of 21 inaugural Doris Duke Artists in 2012, and he has received grants from United States Artists, Meet the Composer, and the National Performance Network.
