Discover the musical histories of Memphis, Philadelphia, Elkhart, and Los Angeles

Throughout the United States, many cities have their own distinct sounds formed by their musical histories. A new series of exhibits in MIM’s United States / Canada Gallery features some of these noted music cities, beginning with Memphis (pictured above), Philadelphia, Elkhart, and Los Angeles. Trace the roots of their traditions and see how their unique stories have shaped the diverse musical landscape of the United States.

Highlights across the exhibits include an acoustic guitar used by blues artist Walter “Furry” Lewis, a tuba played in recording the original soundtrack for Walt Disney’s Fantasia in 1939, and instruments from Wrecking Crew core members Tommy Tedesco and Hal Blaine.
