MIM invites groups to experience the world through music with one of our many tour options. Reserve group tours in advance to check in as a group upon arrival and expedite admissions. Each guest will receive a guidePORT and headset prior to starting the tour. With easier check-in, groups have more time to explore the galleries.
A group is defined as a gathering of ten or more people at one time. Examples include friends, family members, alumni, club members, reunion attendees, adult education learners, and participants of spouse programs or employee activities.
Each admission includes a guidePORT and headset. General museum admission rates are as follows:
General museum admission rates do not include special exhibitions or concert tickets. Travel and tourism industry professional rates are applied at time of booking.
Begin your day by scheduling a tour. Led by a trained museum guide, guests learn about MIM’s Geographic Galleries and the various countries, musical cultures, and fascinating instruments on view. This private tour provides a brief overview and introduction, with the expectation that guests will visit the galleries more extensively at their own pace after the tour.
Explore independently the more than 6,800 musical instruments and objects displayed in MIM’s galleries, starting at the Orientation Gallery. The guidePORTs and headsets allow you to observe on video screens how the instruments are played and hear how they sound.
Join a specially trained museum guide on MIM’s “VIP” Tour to discover how exhibits are created, what goes on backstage at the MIM Music Theater, what kind of storage is needed for MIM’s diverse collection, and more.
A $25 fee is charged for each group that registers for this tour, plus general museum admission for each guest on the tour.
A $40 nonrefundable deposit will hold the reservation and is applied toward the final payment.
Accommodations are made for adults with physical and developmental disabilities, dementia challenges, and visual and hearing disabilities.
Tours are available year-round, seven days a week.
Our team is delighted to tailor the time of the tour to accommodate your needs. We would be glad to help you make your tour reservation.
MIM is pleased to work with groups on dining options at Café Allegro. If you would like to learn more about this option, please indicate your interest on the Adult Group Tour Request Form or in your phone or e-mail inquiry when reserving your group tour.
The scavenger hunt is a small-team activity that offers guests a fun cultural and musical journey through MIM’s galleries to find specific objects and inspiration. Teams receive a worksheet to help guide their search. You can even purchase prizes from the Museum Store to reward winning teams. Additional team fees apply with general admission.
This immersive hour-long activity offers guests the opportunity to play drums and other instruments that are traditional among groups from various cultures. Led by a master instructor, learn the basics of African, Latin, and pop-music hand drumming, and make music and rhythm together. After basic instruction, the session ends with a thrilling jam session. Additional fees apply with general admission.
