How do I buy museum tickets?

You can purchase admission at Guest Service or buy tickets online to save time on the day of your visit. If you need help with a purchase, contact MIM’s Guest Service team at 480.478.6000.

Does MIM offer discounts?

Although we do not offer discounts, our membership program comes with great benefits, including free museum admission for an entire year.

Can I leave and re-enter the museum on the same day?

Yes. Same-day re-entry is allowed. Please check in with Guest Service before you leave.

I’m visiting with a group. What museum tours does MIM offer?

MIM offers both guided and self-guided museum tours to enrich your experience. To schedule a tour, fill out our Group Tour Request Form or contact adulttours@MIM.org.

When is the museum busiest?

The galleries are typically busiest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Weekday afternoons tend to be less busy than weekends. Most guests’ visits last around three hours.

Is MIM accessible to guests with disabilities or sensory needs?

Yes. MIM offers assistive listening devices, captioning, large-print transcripts, wheelchairs, and scooters. Guests are welcome to bring their own headphones with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Visit our Accessibility page for full details.

Can I request special accommodations before my visit?

Absolutely. Please send requests to ADA@MIM.org at least two weeks before your visit. Special accommodations could include ASL interpreters, private tours, or other support needs.

Can I bring a bag or backpack?

All backpacks and any bags larger than 18 inches by 18 inches are not allowed inside the museum and must be checked at Guest Service.

Are strollers or mobility aids allowed?

Yes. Strollers, wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers are welcome. Complimentary options are available at Guest Service. Non-stroller baby carriers or wagons are not allowed inside the museum and must be checked at Guest Service.

Can I bring my own headphones?

Yes, if they have a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. MIM’s headsets do not support Bluetooth or wireless headphones.

Can I bring food or drinks into the museum?

Food and beverages, including water, are not permitted outside of Café Allegro or the PNC Bank Family Center.

No outside food or drink is allowed inside the museum.

Are service animals allowed?

Yes. Trained service animals are welcome.

Can I take photos or videos in the museum?

Non-flash photography for personal use is permitted in the galleries unless otherwise indicated. Tripods, selfie sticks, and other pieces of stabilizing equipment are not allowed. Professional, commercial, or editorial shoots require prior approval by MIM. Please send requests to media@MIM.org.

 

Can I make phone or video calls in the galleries?

For the courtesy of the other guests, we ask that you silence your cell phone when in the galleries.

Will I hear music in the museum?

Yes! A Sennheiser guidePORT and a pair of headphones are included with museum admission. These audio guides, which automatically connect to monitors and provide high-quality audio, provide the soundtrack for videos at more than 300 exhibits around the museum.

Can I touch the instruments or exhibits?

Visit the Experience Gallery to play instruments from cultures around the world—similar to the ones you’ll see on display in other galleries. You can also play the Steinway piano in MIM’s main corridor.

What if I need assistance while I’m at the museum?

Our Guest Service team and volunteer team members are always available to help with accessibility needs, directions, or general support during your visit.

How do I propose an instrument for donation to MIM?
