Magness possesses a mighty voice with a particularly sultry buzz. . . . She cuts loose with memorable effect on lowdown blues, rugged funk, and green-eyed soul.
A master at the lowdown blues who is equally at ease surrounded by a funk or soul sound.
Since the early ’90s, Grammy-nominated blues and soul singer Janiva Magness has built an impressive career in American roots music. She has traveled millions of miles, sung on thousands of club and festival stages, and made a string of acclaimed and award-winning recordings. She is only the second woman—after blues giant Koko Taylor—to receive the Blues Foundation’s B. B. King Entertainer of the Year award.
At 65 years old, and with 15 studio albums to her name, Magness shows no signs of slowing down. She is currently recording her 16th studio album for her own label, Fathead Records.
